Oh, something simple, like changing the culture of the Paramedic
No branch of medicine is more physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually challenging than that of the ambulance medic. Making life-and-death decisions is part of their day-to-day landscape.
The existing culture breeds and supports "Flesh Mechanics" who, while insulating themselves from the emotional trauma, build walls around their hearts that become barriers to their experience of their own humanity.
Simply granting permission to medics to communicate the more esoteric, heart-wrenching, and, yes, terrifying aspects of their work would be a great first step. But it must also be followed through with a system of peer-support that encourages life-fullfilling exploration with others into ways to do the work while maintaining one's humanity.
I'll start there because I know the territory, but this could be a template for a revolution in the current status of the healing arts as practiced Western-style!
